ASOIAF: Teaching Game at Cactus!

Hello Westeros!

We organized a teaching event at Cactus bar in Shanghai last Saturday, which went fantastically well!

We had 2 games on display, obviously the Asoiaf Miniatures Game, but also the Game of Thrones Card Game, which allowed people to diversify a bit.

The Asoiaf tables were:

  • Robb Stark vs Tywin Lannister
  • Stannis Baratheon vs Renly Baratheon
  • Theon Greyjoy vs Ramsay Bolton

The biggest table was just big enough to allow 2 mats of Blackwater Bay side by side, which as you can see looked fantastic, and really makes me want to do a 4 player game on that combined mat, with special river and castle rules…

I actually have no idea what happened with the card table, as I was way too busy with the miniatures ones, but I basically heard 2 things:

  • Don confirmed that the Greyjoy deck was terrible (as I had tested the night before, trying to learn the game before the event)
  • Tiago won the card “tournament” they had, getting a fantastic thrones cup offered by Dan!

We ended the day with a quiz and super nice prizes from SoGoFun, including the Stark-Lannister starter!

Some of the quiz questions were definitely on the hard side (deliberately I’ll admit, although I forgot not everyone listens to the soundtrack under the shower or looks through sigils for painting ideas…), but the winner, Brent, managed to get 26 out of 40, which was a really good score, and got home with the starter and 2 Asoiaf wins under his belt!

Future tournament opponent? Let’s hope so since, I quote, “it’s the game I waited for all my life but never knew existed”

So big thumbs up to Mateusz (2nd), Michael and Tiago (3rd ex-aequo, with Michael getting the win after 8 more questions to differentiate them), Don, Andrea, Alberto, Dan, Charlie, Amber, Lewis, Shailene and Edward for joining the event and hopefully enjoying as much as we did!

And a huge thanks to Dan and Eric, as well as Bruce from SoGoFun for helping with the organization and coaching, and providing incredible gifts to make this day even more memorable!
